FAMILY EDUCATION
Archaeology Now offers two types of adventures for children: an in-person series for families called Ancient Encounters that travels around the city of Houston featuring hands-on activities and The Time Traveler’s Project featuring workbooks and activity sheets that can be used at home., in the classroom, or for parents who are home schooling.
These two types of adventures are designed to introduce world cultures to children and to increase understanding and appreciation of the rich world of humanity through the centuries.
ANCIENT ENCOUNTERS
Every year, our “Ancient Encounters” in-person activities, based in Houston, include an event about indigenous groups that lived along the waterways of the Gulf Coast, an Ancient Games Tournament, and other activities that integrate with the theme of the year.
THE TIME TRAVELERS PROJECT
The “Time Traveler’s Project” was created in cooperation with educators and integrates archaeology with science, social studies, reading, writing, and math activities. The activities respond to TEKS standards and grade-level objectives for third- and fourth-grade students. However, many activities will be of interest to students through the sixth grade.
While everyone might not be able to travel across their city or to another country, using imagination makes it possible to travel through time to meet world cultures. A magical armchair journey awaits!
Currently there are three modules: Ancient Egypt, Rome, and the Maya.
Each module includes a booklet with activities that can be downloaded as well as additional articles and things to do. Join us for journey through time.
